Protect Your Pet’s Health & Reduce the Number of Homeless Animals

The Humane Society of the United States estimates that 6 to 8 million cats and dogs enter shelters every year. And every year, nearly half of them are euthanized. With 70,000 puppies and kittens born each day, there simply aren’t enough homes to go around. Though Valley Humane Society is a no-kill shelter, we can only rescue so many animals. That’s why we’re committed to helping eliminate unnecessary euthanasia through other means, such as encouraging people to spay and neuter their pets.

Spaying and neutering obviously prevents unwanted kittens and puppies being born, but did you know it is also good for your pet? Research has shown that spaying and neutering helps dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives. Spaying eliminates the possibility of uterine or ovarian cancer and greatly reduces the incidence of breast cancer, particularly when your pet is spayed before 6 months of age. Neutering eliminates testicular cancer and decreases the incidence of prostate disease.

Behavioral issues are also prevented, making for happier homes. Spayed and neutered pets are less likely to mark your belongings with urine spray. Females won’t go into heat and attract yowling suitors in the night. Males are less aggressive and less likely to fight with other cats.
